after getting ANOTHER shit room off wotif i (we) resolved on the weekend to never again book shiat thru wotif. i booked the marina apartments thru wotif and we got a lvl2 room at the back of the building - yay for being on the coast…. may as well have been in fsckin moranbah. and last weekend we booked down the coast - again…. level 2, worst room in the entire building….. and the crowne plaza says they’re in surfers paradise - bullshit they are…. just about in sydney we were so fsckin far south of cavill.

wotif is just a mechanism to offload their crappiest rooms at close to market rates. between my companies corporate rates and Nad’s 1337 discounts it’d be cheaper and better to just book standard. bah to wotif.

and when did lastminute start doing the “mystery hotel” stuff? seems a bit shady for me - has anyone done it? how’d ya go?

so yeah… the building was a shit fight…. 1000’s of ppl - not enough lifts. as expected.

once everyone got in here and the beer went on ice and everyone chilled it was all good. some pics….. pics don’t really do the fireworks display justice as i was well into the wine by the time the fireworks started.

so chester did a ratemysteak on satchmo’s @ mackay marina….. he fscked up some very important details.

1 - mackay is not the ass end of the universe…. awesome spot IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU’RE DOING!!!

2 - he only ordered 2 x tappas plates for dinner…. pussy. we ate 8+2 desserts. and 2 x bottles of wine.

personally i thought tappas was a mushy green thing…. i had no idea it’s a type of restaurant - i was sceptical and wanted to go to the steak joint nextdoor, but when in rome, eat roman muck.

turns out the tappas was pretty shit hot….. scallops wrapped in proscuito, chorizo on funky bread things, i cant remember all of them but i’d give it a 9/10. good spot, great service, great food. i’d do it again.

while im on the mackay subject…. highlight of the trip was the feed at broken river mountain resort - crazy place and not where you’d expect such top notch food…. think it’s a husband and wife deal and the husband is a pretty hardcore french chef. so i had something called a possum to reef (lot of wine, can’t remember the exact name). coupla bugs, some oysters, some scallops, some curly fries, and a massive rump steak. i struggled to eat it all!!! best feed i had on the whole trip - and i ate a LOT of food that trip.

cha cha char…. forget this place, it’s so off the list. we went there the other nite and out of a table of 10 they managed to fsck up 3 people’s orders - mine was one of them. no apology, no understanding of how much they’d dropped the ball, and to top it off they tried to charge us for the 3 people’s meals they screwed up. the foods still good but the service has gone to shit. forget this place - go to kingsleys.

gianni’s…. forget alchemy’s beef cheeks - this place is even better!!! comes with a double cream mash…. awesome stuff. just go here - you’ll love it.

vino’s…. went here on sat nite and sometimes it’s hit and miss at a mainline restaurant on a busy nite - but they smashed it. the little foie gras pie thing that comes with the steak is GOLD! and the signature entree - the swimmer crab cake thing…. awesome. just go here - you’ll like it.

siana…. went here on friday nite - it was shithouse. don’t go. you have to order your own meal at the bar, you have to get your own water out of this little jug thing. you’re paying top shelf prices for second rate food and FOURTH rate service. this place eats teh cawk.

brekky ck steak… went here for lunch the other day - hadn’t been here for ages as i’d had a few crap steaks. they nailed it this time. well worth going back. standard creek feed.

belgian beer cafe…. the steak is gold, the beer is better. just do it.

ratemysteak has expanded since i found this place in spring hill with a beer selection that puts most bottle oh’s wine lists to shame…. my goal is to become a beer snob - it’s so much more acceptable in my social circles than being a wine snob…. maybe that says something about the ppl i hang out with?

way hardcore - too hardcore for me…. it’s like they put a cow thru a blender and bottled it. mad hoppie taste and just generally over-powering. cool name but i still wouldnt do it again.

this was nice…. some might call it girlie - kinda like little creatures, a sweet almost lychee taste to it…. didn’t seem to dry me out like little creatures does. definitely do it again - and the chicks dig it!

james squire original amber ale

very hoppie…. it’s worth buying just for the cool stories printed on each bottle - and theyre all different! a little strong at first but it does grow on you - i’d prolly do it again. doubt the chicks would dig it.

some things i learnt this week….

never, ever drink beer before 9am.

a bloody mary contains lethal percentages of tobasco sauce and cracked pepper.

never, ever drink glass on your balcony. tinnies only! consider installing a safety net.

carry a credit card, or an eftpos card - but never both.

be very wary of people who fall off the wagon - they have a lot to achieve in a small amount of time.

tequila is for mexicans…. no exceptions.

voltaren is good, but it’s not THAT good.
